Put the butter you use briefly in the microwave. Then you have a nice and smooth batter and hence the cupcakes are better.
If you want to roll out fondant or marzipan icing use that makes sure it does not stick. Icing sugar and yet has been in the fondant or marzipan.
Are your cupcakes always wrong or you have difficulty fitting to do it: a piping bag works well, or a bag of sandwiches.
